On the 18th I head back to Woodriver Elementary to do an Artist in the Schools Residency. This program is run through the Alaska State Council on the Arts and it sends artists of all sorts to schools throughout the state. I’ve been doing these regularly for the last few years and I enjoy having the chance to get a teaching fix without having to have a teaching career. (And though it is a lot of fun it is also an excellent method of birth control!)
I say “head back” because I attended Woodriver for the last four of my elementary school years. I stopped by the other day to work out some details and everything looked familiar but really, really small.
We are going to make glass mosaic panels to go above the front door of the school. It will be nice to have a chance to leave something behind at a school I remember fondly.
