Marquetry is a woodworking technique that involves working pictorially with veneer, traditionally used to decorate fine objects with precision and polish. I’m interested in pushing against some of marquetry’s fussiness, taking a more playful and irreverent approach to the material.
These pieces are a way of making use of all the parts of the woodblock print process. They contain remnants of their printing history and have new meaning in a reworked and combined state.
